Prepare your conveyancing enquiry

Use this short brief to explain your purchase and ask providers for a relevant scope and quote.

You do not need to include your full address, identity documents or contract to start organising your questions.

1. Describe the purchase

  • Property location: suburb or region.
  • Property type: house, apartment, townhouse, vacant land, other or unsure.
  • Purchase: existing property, newly built, off the plan, house and land, or unsure.
  • Your situation: first purchase, subsequent purchase, investment or another situation.

2. Explain where you are now

Are you researching, considering a property, preparing for auction, reviewing a contract or already under contract?

Record your next deadline, if known. If it is urgent, contact a provider directly and confirm availability; preparing this brief does not arrange advice.

3. Name the work you want discussed

For example: pre-exchange contract advice, the conveyancing transaction, a review of off-the-plan documents or advice about concerns raised in an inspection.

Ask the provider to confirm which services they can offer and what further expertise may be needed.

4. Add your important questions

What is unresolved? What do you intend to do with the home? What would you like explained before you decide?

A brief you can copy

I am considering a [property type] in [suburb/region]. It is [purchase description], and I am currently [stage]. My next deadline is [date/unknown]. I would like a scope and quote for [work]. My main questions are [questions]. Please confirm who would handle the matter, your availability, what the fee includes and which additional charges may apply.

Before choosing a provider

Compare the written scope, relevant experience, fees and communication. Verify the appropriate professional registration and read the engagement terms.
