A clearer starting point for buying property in NSW
Start with your purchase, your next decision and the questions you still need answered.
You do not need to learn every property term at once. You do need to know who is helping you, what they are checking and when you need their advice.
Choose your starting point
| Your situation | Start here |
|---|---|
| I am buying my first home | First-home buying guide |
| I am looking at a newly built property | New-build buying guide |
| I am considering an off-the-plan contract | Off-the-plan buying guide |
| I need someone to review a contract | Choose a conveyancer |
| I have an inspection report or an unresolved concern | Property checks |
Put the next commitment first
Tell your adviser if you have an auction date, a proposed exchange date, a contract already signed or another deadline. Ask which decisions need advice before you act. Do not assume that a later inspection or a cooling-off period will give you the options you want. Read about contract review
Keep three sets of questions together
The transaction: What am I agreeing to, and what rights and obligations follow?
The property: What do the documents and inspections establish, and what remains uncertain?
Your plans: What would make this home unsuitable for the way you want to live?
Use our buyer checklist to organise those questions. Use qualified advisers to investigate and interpret the answers for your circumstances.
