Conveyancing help for your first home in NSW

You should be able to ask a basic question and receive an answer you understand.

For a first purchase, compare how an adviser explains the process as well as the work included. Tell them what you have already done, even if you are unsure whether it matters.

Questions worth asking

  • Will you explain what happens before exchange and before settlement?
  • When will you review the contract and discuss significant issues with me?
  • How should I tell you about inspection findings and plans for the property?
  • Who will tell me which amounts need to be available, and when?
  • What happens if I decide not to proceed with this property?
  • Can you help me identify which first-home assistance questions require checking?

Make the first conversation useful

You can say:

This is my first purchase. I am considering [property type] in [area]. My next deadline is [date or unknown]. I would like to understand the contract, the costs of your work and which other checks I should arrange before making a commitment.

You do not need to know all the answers before you ask for a scope and quote.

Treat assistance as a separate eligibility question

First-home support has eligibility requirements. Check the current Revenue NSW criteria and ask how they apply to your circumstances; do not assume that being a first-home buyer settles the question.

What would good support look like for you?

Think about whether you prefer scheduled calls, written explanations, a named contact or help organising questions. Ask providers what they actually offer.
